Chances are you’ve come across the fantastic musical ensemble known as Postmodern Jukebox on social media platforms by now. Their songs have been percolating on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and more, garnering heartfelt praise from all quarters for their amazing ability to take contemporary pop hits and turn them into gorgeous vintage, last-century-flavoured hits.
Imagine songs from the repertoire of voices like Beyonce, Britney Spears and Taylor Swift reworked as if they were written for Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Judy Garland or Nina Simone, and a small, vibrant, Benny Goodman Orchestra-sounding orchestra after an overdose of energy pills.
They caused a sensation on Youtube when their cover of “We Can’t Stop” (Miley Cyrus) garnered over 14 million views. Last month, the Postmodern Jukebox channel reached over 1.5 million subscribers on YouTube, and had over 313 million views. They went on to turn Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space” into vintage cabaret, slipped into jazz with Meghan Trainor’s “All About The Bass,” put ’70s soul into “I Want It That Way” (Backstreet Boys), and released a touching vocal/piano version of the famous “Take Me to Church” (Hozier).
Just like their popular music videos, each Postmodern Jukebox live song is a bridge between generations, with fresh tracks with a familiar sound. An unmissable, irresistible show for all ages!
