The small orchestra of 12 artists, playing in no less than 25 languages, opens the winter concert season in Bucharest
A musical adventure around the world, drawing inspiration from Hollywood musicals of the 1940s and 50s and combining a variety of genres into a modern and eclectic composition – Pink Martini brings a multilingual repertoire and a sound that can’t be categorised but is guaranteed to bring audiences to their feet on any stage they perform on.
The opportunity to hear their sophisticated, cosmopolitan and vintage-tinged music will come again on December 1 at the Sala Palatului, as Events (www.events.ro) brings them to their audience once more. This year’s concert will bring, for the first time in Romania, a collection of winter songs that the band has collected from around the world. From Ukrainian, French and Italian carols, to winter songs from Israel, Scotland and Germany, to Chinese New Year songs and the famous White Christmas sung in Japanese, all will resound on the stage of the Palace Hall in musical splendour.
The band loves Romania – Thomas Lauderdale, the band’s leader, has said that Bucharest is like a second home to them – and the audience loves them for their impeccable vocal and instrumental performances and for the special interaction that makes any concert a complete experience for the audience. Their shows are sold out because listening to Pink Martini is like an evening journey across the meridians: from the romantic piazzas of Italy to the shores of the Bosphorus, from the chic cafes of Paris to the Far East, and from mysterious Asia to the bustling cities of South America.
Founded in 1994 in Lauderdale’s hometown of Portland, Oregon, as a band to combat the noise and mediocrity some perceived as music, more than twenty years later Pink Martini is now playing both their own songs and reinterpretations of famous tunes that are guaranteed to have audiences bringing their dancing shoes to the concert.
Tickets for the Pink Martini concert at the Sala Palatului in Bucharest on 1 December 2018 can be purchased from the Eventim network (Germanos, Vodafone, Orange, Domo, Humanitas bookshops, Cărturești bookshops) or online at www.eventim.ro, at several price categories, depending on the seating position in the hall or the purchase period.
